Fair to say I had to look it up online - I had been invited to come and check out the new Dim Sum menu at Edinburgh Castle - In my mind this was an English pub on the corner where Symonds Street meets Khyber... I was actually right about the place, but wrong about the food I thought would be there...I'm always one to find out new places and city secrets, so Saturday lunch it was.
There are a few dishes served as a buffet - you can help yourself to ... Cantonese BBQ Pork, Roasted Pork with Crispy Skin, Fish Fillet with Black Pepper Sauce, Garlic Mixed Vegetables, Fried Rice with Vegetables and Fried Noodles with Vegetables. (Fish Fillet with the Black Pepper Sauce was my favourite, and I am usually a crispy pork with crackling kinda girl!!)
And then a order sheet / menu for fresher than fresh dumplings and dim sum straight from the kitchen... order the number of dim sum you want of each flavour and then they are brought to your table in individual bamboo baskets.... you can keep doing this, there is room on the menu to order again, either more of your favourites or new flavours.... just write the number of dumplings you want for each bamboo basket in the little box and hand it to your waitress.... Be careful - see what we did here BIG MISTAKE... we went straight down the menu and ordered 3 ( that was 1 each) of everything and completely crowded our table... take your time and order in rounds - my biggest tip, pace yourself for three rounds not all in one!!!
You can probably see for the pictures how delicious everything was - beautiful authentic flavours all the way!! I would also like to do a little 'shout out' to their choice of tea... It wasn't just green tea - it was delicious, floral jasmine tea. I had to check the label on the teapot because I was convinced it had orange blossom in it. I'm going to try and find it for drinking at home.
Dining here ihas similarities to yum char but cutting out the laden trolleys and using a more succinct 'order in rounds' system - chefs then making just exactly what you order....
