Oyster and Chop
Been meaning to ... for a long time - but that list of places to go try just keeps getting longer and longer... tough problem. The verdict - it should have been much further up that list!!!
So - the oysters are sold by the dozen or half dozen, and then individually as shots or in bubbles with lemoncello pearls!! Fresh Oysters vary daily and are listed outside. I am always asking waiters what the condition of oysters are, especially at this time of year, because it is one thing to have them on the menu, its quite another for them to be worthy to be on a menu. Our waiter knew immediately that the Bluffs were still in good knick and still plump. For me there is nothing worse than ordering oysters to find the chef has been delivered skinny little oysters.
Perfectly done - the Kilpatrick was an amazing coating of 'jammy' savoury manuka bacon, with a low 'after heat' of worchester coming through to finish. The cooked oysters were all warm through, but still juicy plump oysters. Perfect. Superb oysters.
Beef Carpaccio, truffle mayo, pickled beetroot, parmesan and baby onion rings (I think there was date too).
Leek and potato soup, parmesan and potato beignet.
Seared Scallops (NZ) , black pudding, parsnip puree, caramelised fish sauce, ginger and lime.
Classic Kiwi Fish and Chips, beer battered with thick cut chips...
Beautiful comfortable seats - white linen and sophisticated service. Perfect place to while away an afternoon.
